Your first month in Germany is a chain, not a checklist
Sequence registration, tax identification, payroll, insurance and household administration during a move to Germany.
Generic arrival lists make every task look independent. Your first German month is easier to manage when each action shows what must happen before it.
Registration creates later evidence
Once you move into a registrable address, Anmeldung establishes your residence with the municipality. A German tax identification number is generally assigned through the tax administration and sent afterwards; it is not something most newcomers need to invent or buy from an intermediary.
Employers may ask for payroll information before all post arrives. Tell payroll what is pending and ask what temporary handling they use instead of guessing a number.
Insurance has an earlier timeline
Health coverage should not be left until every municipal task is complete. Employment, university and residence circumstances affect when evidence is needed and what choices exist. Put the insurance decision beside your start date, then seek specific advice where necessary.
Letters are part of the process
Keep your name visible on the mailbox and monitor post. Tax correspondence, broadcasting contribution letters and authority notices may arrive physically. Record deadlines and retain copies of replies.
The sequence will vary by city and personal route, but the principle holds: attach every task to its prerequisite. When the prerequisite slips, update all dependent dates.
